The AtoA game we played at the club this weekend has confirmed me in my opinion of these rules as being a preferred set to use. I really like the attention to detail for the period and the friction that I haven't found with other rules we've tried out. I also like the fact that the rules are constructed well enough to allow us to tweak where appropriate, but initial focus will be to play them more regularly to get to understand their nuances better.
Cheers
JJcarojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-34351216739880266972016-10-12T11:25:34.439-07:002016-10-12T11:25:34.439-07:00Great to hear appreciation for Augustus to Aurelia...Great to hear appreciation for Augustus to Aurelian. I am just setting out on a Roman project of my own and am a big fan of TFL rules in general. Phil Hendry appears to have given A2A absolutely the right degree of friction and commander limitations to approximate the period. I very much enjoyed Adrian Goldsworthy's book "The Roman Army at War 100BC-AD200" and the excellent description of the General's, Unit and Soldier's battle. I am looking to model multi-cohort engagements with A2A but then to zoom into individual contubernia combat using a modification of Habet hoc Habet gladiator rules. I am modelling contubernia from accross Roman Britain the individual personalities from which I am following over time and campaigns. Thank you for the inspiration.
Aye,
Rusty Rusty Pilumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06627429472366035464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-7173112622563615232016-01-13T12:53:50.960-08:002016-01-13T12:53:50.960-08:00Thank you James, and so am I but I am conscious th...Thank you James, and so am I but I am conscious that I need to get the Talavera project finished before moving on to other things, and Talavera will set the Napoleonic collection up for moving that project on into 1810, among other things.carojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-45833329829018513562016-01-13T12:48:10.072-08:002016-01-13T12:48:10.072-08:00Yeah I agree Vince, and I know these choices are t...Yeah I agree Vince, and I know these choices are that much more subjective the further back in history we go as the descriptions of battle and the details surrounding them become less reliable and informative. Thus like the academics we as Wargamers are forced to make educated guesses about whether our rules are capturing the key aspects we imagine should be included, oh and have fun at the same time.carojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-88580422091701865052016-01-12T18:37:22.841-08:002016-01-12T18:37:22.841-08:00Looking forward to seeing this project develop Jon...Looking forward to seeing this project develop Jonathan. Lots of units running round on their own is not for me.

VinceVincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03691369848035290908noreply@blogger.com
