Although it has been a long time since our last playing of Battlefront, I recall having become a little less enthusiastic with the system. The last several games produced disappointing results and a general malaise set in over the group with respect to the rules.

We should give it another go and see if time has changed our perceptions. Thanks for the recommendation.
Jon Jonathan Freitaghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07862373894196924886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-71068107228475494962013-05-12T07:52:31.252-07:002013-05-12T07:52:31.252-07:00Hi Jacksarge, and welcome to the blog. I think that is only fair to the design team who have obviously invested a lot of time putting these rules out there. My thoughts were simply me playing with the concepts and considering other ways to do things without necessarily detracting from the aspects of the game that have generated my enthusiasm.

Yes, indexing of rules, don't get me started!!

Cheers
Jonathancarojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-16411807648886982692013-05-12T07:42:51.546-07:002013-05-12T07:42:51.546-07:00Hi Jon,

I have a copy of the rules, but prefering to play at a lower level have never played them.

From my reading of them and collecting the numerous scenarios available on their web page, it is clear to me that the people playing them and contributing to their development know their stuff. I love the level of detail intermingled with what appers to be a very playable game system. Players have contributed their own ideas about things like grazing fire with machine guns, and the ways to simulate the differing artillery tactics of the combatants and the provision of numerous detailed TOE's and historical orbats make scenario creation easy.

Hope that might be useful.

Joncarojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-77832809327877962512013-05-12T07:31:44.374-07:002013-05-12T07:31:44.374-07:00Hi Piers, thank you, and thanks for providing some...Hi Piers, thank you, and thanks for providing some insight into the design thoughts.
Jonathancarojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-78308870491002504222013-05-12T07:05:47.358-07:002013-05-12T07:05:47.358-07:00Although never having tried these rules, your '...Although never having tried these rules, your 'first impressions' provide a useful analysis for the interested WWII gamer.

While my search continues for a set of WWII squad-level rules (BMU is squad with actions at the company or battalion level), do you have recommendations that encompasses the following requirements?

1. BMU is squad
2. More simulation than game on your sliding scale between playability vs realism
3. Player rewarded for using historical tactics
4. Rules contain interesting interactions without being fiddly
5. Thought provoking yet fun
6. Produces plausible results

This might be a tall order but would appreciate your insights.

Interesting post!
JonJonathan Freitaghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07862373894196924886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-81920233555172138082013-05-12T05:15:18.865-07:002013-05-12T05:15:18.865-07:00Nice game, lovely models!

Not to everyones taste granted.

Artillery only scatters 4d6 is you roll a 1 for barrage accuracy, and you dont have to bring the guns in too fire on that point if you dont want to. Artillery is limited by both spotters and the activations you have.

Recording of ammo for vehicles adds another factor into the game for players to consider, and stops them banging away relentlessly and have to actually consider what they fire at... It also allows you to have a need for resupply trucks and fun things.

But yes, most certainly more game than simulation, as is the intention, but one that has period feel.

Cheers,

PiersPiershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07621064172797548187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-2671966424171690712013-05-12T04:31:06.794-07:002013-05-12T04:31:06.794-07:00Some great thoughts there about BGO. The rules give an enjoyable game I reckon, but I am interested to see what house rules you develop.Jacksarge Paintinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09859137774361915594noreply@blogger.com
