I plan to change that emphasis going into 2017, particularly with the advent of the Victrix EIR plastics. With the core of the Roman forces completed I think the first units of Dacians will be a priority, then we can get some 28mm AtoA games up and running as the collection is added to.
Cheers
JJcarojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-19006575341568760312016-10-12T13:25:20.982-07:002016-10-12T13:25:20.982-07:00Wow, plenty of campaign options to get the pilum s...Wow, plenty of campaign options to get the pilum stuck into. I have been reading Ben Kane's excellent Arminius novels covering the Varian disaster (to use the Roman perspective) and subsequent attempts to recover the lost eagles. I am firmly lodged in Britannia for my own campaigns but Germania is such a tempting diversion. Great blog.
Aye,
RustyRusty Pilumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06627429472366035464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-21553303830444699012015-12-20T02:17:06.436-08:002015-12-20T02:17:06.436-08:00Cheers Phil, I think the combination of a nice loo...Cheers Phil, I think the combination of a nice looking map game and figures on the tabletop really bring the two separate strands of the hobby together. I find listening to many pure board gamers on the odd podcast as historical figure players imagining the look of the combat they are creating with their counters. With adaptions to create games that are there to generate table top battles rather than be games in their own right I think you get the best of both.
Thanks again
JJcarojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-3529664743817912452015-12-20T02:11:04.197-08:002015-12-20T02:11:04.197-08:00Thanks Paul, I can't wait to get stuck in and ...Thanks Paul, I can't wait to get stuck in and get the first games up and runningcarojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-64968354760274647232015-12-20T02:09:45.931-08:002015-12-20T02:09:45.931-08:00Hi Vince, oh yes those big Warbands on mass will l...Hi Vince, oh yes those big Warbands on mass will look very intimidating to those Romans hunkered down behind their shields. The dress code and shields with those great looking dragon standards, plus a hoard or Sarmatian Cataphtacts and gaudy coloured horse archers - what's not to like?

Well each game is quite different from the others. For example the Dacian invasion is simply taking the Hail Caesar book campaign of playing their linked Scenarios with several separate armies and combining what is left for the final game. The map provides a bit more interest in that both sides can bluff/counter bluff each other by deciding what if any forces they will commit to the three approach routes through the mountains - so you won't have to worry about fatigue, just Sarmatian cavalry getting round behind you and raiding your supply lines.carojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-18211696319483415842015-12-20T00:02:16.657-08:002015-12-20T00:02:16.657-08:00Yes it is! It is very tough to balance getting forces where you want them, with the fatigue of movement. I won every pitched battle, but got out marched every time. Net result, an overall loss.

VinceVincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03691369848035290908noreply@blogger.com
