Being at anchor and with a reduced crew and decks strewn with stores bound for the shore, any decent game reflecting those issues is bound to throw up the potential for the odd fire or two.

That said if the poor old 'Billy Ruffian' is an exemplar, the L'Orient can pack a punch, certainly delivering her first broadside, so I think the British commander will have to treat this French flagship with a bit of respect.

Cheers
JJ carojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-69832028853453068052021-06-25T01:25:27.686-07:002021-06-25T01:25:27.686-07:00Hi Anthony,

I think historical wargaming is how the majority of wargamers mature into the hobby, certainly if the WSS Magazine and the Wargamers Survey is anything to go by.

I enjoy classic fantasy wargaming such as Tolkien, and have indulged in a bit of Star Trek in my 'salad days' but fundamentally I have always preferred an historical theme to my games and scenarios that allow me to explore the issues that faced the commanders from the past.

If you then add some models that capture the look of their historical counterparts and you come to the game knowing a bit about their own history then, for me, that is the 'icing on the cake' to produce a satisfying game hopefully with a rule set that captures the feel of the era and theme portrayed.

Throw in a bit of reading, visits to museums and battlefields and the social company of likeminded enthusiasts and it seems to me that we have the perfect hobby, dare I say passion!

I hope the blog captures some of those thoughts.

Cheers
JJcarojonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11826580638291659193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2591229843590982581.post-12502152580702020702021-06-23T21:59:30.561-07:002021-06-23T21:59:30.561-07:00Lovely to see more photos of your lovely version o...Lovely to see more photos of your lovely version of the mighty l'Orient Jonathan.
