The Earl of Warwick and his Battle - Wars of the Roses
This weekend will see the Devon Wargames Group, big Xmas game, in which the whole club comes together to play one game. This event is usually administered by veteran DWG member and old friend Charles (Chas) Carter who is a past master at pulling together multi-player big games.
A few years ago we ran a large fictitious Wars of the Roses game for our Xmas meeting and so the club has a lot of units owned by members who produced figures for that game, me included.
Battle of Whipton Cross Wars of the Roses
This year we are going to run a large medieval game and so these figures are being mustered yet again.
Being a "Warwickshire Lad" ,by birth, it seemed natural to raise a force under the command of the King Maker himself. I remember getting these figures done as the remains of a certain King Richard III were being uncovered in a car park in Liecester and the country held it's collective breath hardly daring to believe that the long lost King had been found. Indeed on the day of the discovery my wife, Carolyn, and I were visiting the battlefield and centre at Bosworth to see the newly confirmed site for the battle.
I have toyed with the idea of developing a Wars of the Roses collection and digging these figures out of the loft for next weekends game has certainly rekindled the idea.
Awesome! figures, painting and basing!...... stunning looking unit/formation..
ReplyDeleteCheers Phil, let's hope they make a good showing in the game.
DeleteWonderful work sir. The highly polished effect on the armour is superb.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael, they were looking a bit worse for wear when I found them in the loft last week, with a broken standard, now replaced with a sturdy brass model and one chap with a broken sword blade that needed re-welding. Still I think they look ready for battle. Game report to follow on the Devon Blog.
DeleteThose are lovely minis! I'd also love to own a Perry WOTR collection.
ReplyDeleteThanks Simon. I agree, they really are a lovely range of figures and really am inclined to build a collection later on.
DeleteSuperb looking unit. Excellent painting that is inspiration for the force I am currently painting.
ReplyDeletecheers
Cheers Kiwi, that's what this blog is all about. Keep on painting.
